PNAGKC Swing Night! A Success ***
by Beth Rosas RN
The task of raising money for an organization is never
an easy one. However, when you work with several
willing souls, this big work comes easy and even fun.
Swing night was an idea that I have always wanted to
try not only to raise funds but just to reach out to
our members and supporters socially and have fun
while learning the latest craze and fad... ballroom
dancing!
Although lacking in time and manpower, the Swing
night held at St. Gabriel's last November 8 was
a huge success. There were around 50 attendees, with
majority of the supporters were friends from the
Filipino Association of Greater Kansas City. I would
like to thank them for coming and lending us their
sound system. Thank you Joel Rosas for putting the
sound system together and to Jessica for preparing &
manning the registration desk .
The evening started promptly at 4 in the afternoon with
concurrent Chiefs game on TV. Needless to say, the
group had more
fun learning the introductory lessons of the Swing
and Cha-Cha led by Beth & David Merrick than watching
the Chiefs play that
crucial game. Lucky winners went home with door
prizes. Of course, the evening will not be complete
without food! Leila Busch of Manila Grocery
graciously donated her time and some of the food
sale proceeds to PNAGKC while satisfying everyone's
craving for the old Filipino delicacies. The
professional dance instructors, Shelly & Rafael
tutored us several dance lessons and delighted
everyone with their graceful performance of the
cha-cha and the East Coast Swing.
An evening of stress busting fling, learning,
socialization, and to raise funds to support PNAGKC's
cause.. that's where my gratification
begins.
For many of us, the days goes by and are a blur of
activities, carpools, school work, house chores,
volleyball practice, football games, work schedules,
deadlines etc. Not to mention the holidays! shopping,
gifts, parties, decorations, baking, Christmas
cards... BUT, to get involved in something worthwhile,
THIS makes a big difference in our lives. No matter
how busy we are, there's always a way if we will it.
Who among us who isn't already on overdrive trying
to stuff even more into our already overcrowded
lifestyles??
|
Keep your stomach in and chest out! |
In this blur, we rarely see... we sometimes can't see,
nor read our letters, nor hear our messages, but
there is always time.. if we make the time. So get
involved and join us t in our next activity; you
might be in for a pleasant surprise.
Lastly, a million thanks to Sonia Tumanut, Ernie
Rosas, Elvie Leone, Joy Doolin, and Denys Collins for
donating the door prizes, gift certificate and drinks.
And to Cora Zamora, Arvin Figueroa, Marilyn Moyo &
everyone who supported us with this event... may God
bless you and give you back triple fold of what you
give.
