The Message
(From the PNAGKC Chapter presentation at this year’s Nat’l Convention)

Human needs are basic but not all are met the same way! Here, we are lucky to have the latest technology to care for our patients. In other parts of the world, only the basic medical and nursing care is available and caregivers make do of what they have. We may have the chips and cyberspace integrated to patient care, but here, we are missing something. Fortunately, in those remote places, they do not have the robotics that replaces the human touch.
To all the Berna Hawts RN (burnout nurses) in this world, when you are down and out, we have these words for you:
- Believe it when they say that there are things you can change and there are things you can't, for it is the truth. So just do the best you can. After all, that is all that is asked of you.
- Learn to say No without feeling guilty. Learn to set limits and accept that nurses are humans too. And that includes YOU
- Honor whatever talents and possessions are within you. The more you appreciate yourself, the more you can appreciate the people around you
- Remember, fault finding does not require brains nor character. Tune up your attitudes daily; discard what hinders.
- Laugh; look for what is good in times of adversity. Learn and grow forever life teaches you
- Work hard but play hard! Make time to renew your strength. Remember true happiness and contentment comes from within.
- And lastly but not least, when the going really really gets rough, remember you are not alone! So build and bond relationships...for it will carry you through!
