(Feb.27,1998) The Philippine Nurses Association of America announces its forthcoming National Convention '98 in June 18-21, 1998 at the San Diego Marriott Hotel.
(Nov.22,1997) Phoebe Dauz Williams, RN, Ph.D., FAAN, Professor, received the 1997
Investigator Research Award at the University of Kansas Medical Center,
School of Nursing during the Faculty Research Day held last November 7.
She presented a lecture at the award ceremony, along with the lectures of
the awardees from the KU School of Medicine and the School of Allied
Health. Dr. Williams has several publications in refereed journals in
1997. Also, last August, she presented one of her studies in Leuven,
Belgium; she will present two other studies in Canberra, Australia in Feb.
1998, and will be a keynote speaker at the First International Nursing
Research Congress to be held in Manila on April 15, 1998.
While in Manila in March and April '98, Dr. Williams will initiate the
writing (update) of the 2nd edition of the Textbook of Nursing
Fundamentals, the first edition of which was published by her and several
co-authors in 1981. Deans of Schools of Nursing in the Philippines look
forward to the 2nd edition; they say that this is the "only book of its
kind that deals with the Filipino patient, and considers the values and
traditions of the Filipino family and Filipinos in general".
Dr. Williams has adjusted her Spring'98 teaching to begin early and be
taught intensively so that she can fulfill this request by nursing
educators in the Philippines. She'll be back in time for the Spring
graduation ceremonies, since one of her students will graduate and receive
a KU 'hood' for a Ph.D.degree.
(Nov.3,1997) On Thursday, November 6, Sonia Tumanut, RN, Cora Zamora, RN, and Regie Upton, RN will be going to Danang, Vietnam as members of a medical/surgical volunteer team. The medical mission is a project of the Medical Missions Foundation.
