REACH MORE TO THE MEMBERS 1. Set up emergency fund for members in need 2. Improved communication - updated website, e-mail, members directory and membership brochure; developed policy and procedures manual; standardized forms; initiated individualized approach; changed officers' term of office to coincide with the national officers, incoming presidents are: July 1, 2004-June 30, 2006: Irma Labre July 1, 2006-June 30, 2008: Beth Rosas 3. Assessed educational needs and provided two educational programs (one program in collaboration with the Philippine Medical Society of Greater Kansas City) 4. Increased visibility and credibility - the following members received awards in 2003: Helen Austria - PNAKC Nurse of the Year Mary Aragon - Riss Family Award for Excellence in Neuroscience Nursing Anita Cooper - Diamond Award Arvin Figueroa - Nurse Week Nursing Excellence Award in Community Service Finalist Emma Florentino - Sutherland Family Nursing Award for Excellence in Surgical Intensive Care Unit Tess Laoruangroch - Kansas University Nursing Heart of Healthcare Award Babette Orlich - Notice a Nurse Diane Penaloza - Diamond and Platinum Awards 5. Encouraged professional development - members as speakers in the educational programs provided 6. Members renewal/recruitment activities - picnic/camping, Christmas party 7. Welcomed and assisted new Filipino nurses in KC and Nebraska -developed welcome packet 8. REACH MORE TO THE COMMUNITY 1. Achieved 501 ( c ) (3) status to encourage donation 2. Increased public awareness - developed brochure; publicity through media coverage; volunteer works and award banquet; educational seminar offered to the laymen; participated in a panel discussion on Transcultural Nursing at a local college 3. Raised pledges for public television 4. Assisted in medical mission - raised funds, solicited and packed medical supplies, and sent members to the mission on Jan. 19-22 at San Marcelino, Zambales (1500 patients seen) 5. Provided home healthcare to a Filipino girl with severe cleft lip/palate deformity 6. Provided financial assistance and emotional support to a Filipino leukemia patient who underwent bone marrow transplant 7. Collaborated with Filipino Association of Greater KC in hosting a health fair at the Filipino Cultural Center- members taught CPR, checked blood pressure and blood sugar, provided counseling and education 8. Continued nursing scholarship program - First scholar graduated March, a sophomore from UE is the current scholar 9. Provided food and winter clothing to the homeless 10. On-going work with the Family Information Network -translating in Pilipino patient's educational handbook on Fetal Alcoholic Syndrome 11. Fundraising activities - dinner/dance, souvenir ads, auctions 12. Assisted American Red Cross in giving flu shots
