A TRIBUTE TO THE MEMBERS
Tess Laoruangroch

To all the members: For your continued membership, for the time you have shared, for the donations you havegiven, for the officers who never gave up, and most of all, for those behind the scenes members like Jo Rhodes who collects surgical supplies for the mission;Venus Buckner who speaks in seminars on behalf of PNAGKC and thru her, PNAGKC has a meeting place; Chito Belchez who is helping the new nurses at KU; Ness Perry who lives in Omaha, wants to know what she can do to help and collects glass syringes for the mission; and there are more who silently have given PNAGKC a part of themselves - here is a tribute to you all.
The majority of us lead quiet, unheralded lives as we
"The majority of us lead quiet, unheralded lives as we pass through this world. There will most likely be no ticker-tape parades for us, no monuments created in our honor. But that does not lessen our possible impact, for there are scores of people waiting for someone just like us to come along; people who will appreciate our compassion, our unique talents. Someone who will live a happier life merely because we took the time to share what we had to give. Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have a potential to turn a life around. It's overwhelming to consider the continuous opportunities there are to make our love felt"…….Leo Buscaglia

In addition,  the national nursing awards will be given on the gala night.  It is time for PNAGKC members to nominate another member for the PNAA National Awards in five categories.  In the past, Ernie Rosas (nurse entrepreneur), Phoebe Williams (nurse researcher), and Cora Zamora (community service) have won.  Past winners are ineligible to be nominated again in a different category.  PNAGKC has members who are qualified and deserving to receive the national awards.  Call Tess (816- 746-3812 ) for nomination forms and criteria.  The awards are in these categories: clinical nurse, nurse administrator, nurse researcher, nurse educator, community service, and nurse entrepreneur.

As part of the convention, the next year's convention host will present a short feature about the city where the convention is going to be, and that is Kansas City!  There will be a ceremonial passing down of the lamp of Nightingale from the Hawaii chapter to the Kansas City chapter.  Members are encouraged to attend.  So if you don't know yet where to go for this year vacation, why not make your vacation a double-purpose?
