Sent December 16, 2003
Through Helen Austria
PNAGKC
Scholarship Committee

Dear Miss Helen Austria,

Greetings!
I would like to thank you and the PNAGKC for the much needed financial support you had extended me. I am Madelyn B. Bonifacio, a second year Nursing student of the UERMMMC Philippines.
Sorry I was not able to respond to all your emails. I do not have my own computer. I just rent computer so I very seldom open my emails. From now on, I will regularly check my email.
As of now I've been doing great in my studies. I will do my very best to attain my goal in life. I have two elder sisters who were also taking up nursing course in another school. Unfortunately, because of financial difficulty, they had to stop schooling. I was very lucky to have a sponsor like yoou. I was able to continue with my studies.
Again thank you very much for the support you have given me.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Sincerely,
Madelyn B. Bonifacio

PNAGKC Welcomes Newly Arrived Filipino Nurses
in Lincoln, Nebraska
by Ernesto Rosas

It was a cold December morning when  Riz Pecana, Beth Rosas and I  traveled  to Lincoln,  Nebraska to attend a late morning reception for the 12 Filipino nurses who finished their Internship Program  at Bryan LGH Medical Center. This 350 bed capacity  offers a wide array of services. It  includes prevention, diagnosis, inpatient and outpatient treatment, rehabilitation home health, transitional care and education to the surrounding regional clientele.

Heather Sorensen, RN, one of their Educators greeted us and gave  us a brief tour of the hospital . We visited "The Fairview" a Classical Revival Mansion which was the former house of William Jennings Bryan, the first Nebraska Democrat to be elected in Congress. He was nominated as the Democratic Party's candidate  for President of the US  three times but was never elected to the office. He donated acres of land including the  property where the hospital is built now.

I showed a Power Point presentation about the PNA at the national and regional level and Rizvend   presented  our local  PNAGKC chapter. They are very impressed with our Association and on that note have verbalized  an  interest on forming a new chapter in Nebraska. The newly arrived nurses were very  articulate,  enthusiastic, and cordial. A brief discussion followed and we answered  their questions.
